Jays Bounce in 3B with Big Win at Green Isle

The PL Jays got thumped by Jordan on Friday 6/27 in recent RVL/3B seeding action tagging but 5 hits behind Tony Eicher who was hung with the loss on the hill scattering 12 hits through 5 innings with Travis Johnson tossing 6-8 and yielding 3 runs in a flat Jays attack that resulted in a 10-0 8 inning Brewer win behind Scott Hollingsworth and Tyler Oakes.

The Jays travelled to Green Isles Irish Yard Sunday 6/29 with the Texan back in the saddle and overcame a 2-0 1st inning deficit to match it in the 2nd behind starter Jesse Sheidecker who went 4 1/3 leaving with a 4-3 deficit before the Jays Swarmed for 4 behind #2 pitcher Tim Garceaus (WP) moonball Grand Slam in the 5th.  The Jays also scored one in the 7th and went to the 9th with an 8-7 lead after the Irish answered with 3 in the 7th.  The Jays put a 5 on the board in the ninth before Rob Tschimperle took to the hill facing 6 yielding no hits or runs for the save.  Garceau, Geisler, Wartman homered for the Jays with Geisler and Garceau tagging doubles and a hard shot to the cup of Green Isles Breyer by catcher Sam Hoppe the 9th inning swarm.  Hallahan, Breyer and Pilacinski threw for the Irish who were held to 8 hits, 2 homeruns by Moriarity.  Hallahan took the loss.  The Jays also took the season series with 2 big wins vs. GI and 1 to go as the Section races to the end for critical seeding position.

The Jays have thus far exceeded their win total of 2007 and needing 2 more Section wins to eclipse the 4 posted (of 15) in 2006 & 2007.  The Jays also remain perfect in non 3B games thus far taking down both RVL C teams and non leaguers from St Benedict(C), Burnsville(B) and St Louis Park(A).  2 Big games before the 4th of July include Tuesday at Chaska in RVL/3B action 7/1 730PM and non leaguer with Mpls Wesley Homies on Wed 7/2 730PM in PL for a brief last layoff as the regular season winds down.  Get your Red & Black & SWARM with your JAYS!

Mudcat Bret Mitchell to Play in Northwoods League

Pitcher Bret Mitchell of the Prior Lake Mudcats will join the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League starting on Tuesday July 1st.  Bret was an integral part of the season the Mudcats were having at 12-5 in the DRS.  We wish the best for Bret in his summer with the Rochester Honkers.  Bret plays for Iowa Central during the school year.  Bret will mainly pitch for Rochester.

Mudcats defeat Veseli 11-3, Improve to 12-5

The Prior Lake Mudcats defeated the Veseli Warriors 11-3 Sunday in DRS action.  Veseli struck first with two runs in the first on a two out single by AJ Friedges.  Justin Scheffler had singled and Eric Steinhoff walked before friedges singled.   Jake Schmidt was the starting and winning pitcher for Prior Lake, he worked out of many jams through seven innings of work.  The 'Cats started their comeback in the third with a leadoff home run by BJ Benz, his third of the year.  One out later Casey Johnson crushed one to left field for his second of the season tying the score at 2.  In the fourth the 'Cats put it away for good with a leadoff walk to Justin Schliep, a single by Ben Schmidt, scoring Schliep.  A single by Greg Faue, a single by Benz, scoring Schmidt.  A sac fly by Levi Schneider, scoring Faue.  Cats scored one in the sixth when Nick Johnson had a one out single and Benz doubled him home.  The 'Cats added five in the 7th to blow the game open for Jake Schmidt.  Bryan Bohnsack finished the last two innings for the Mudcats.  Hitting stars for the 'Cats were Bret Mitchell with two hits, Ben Schmidt with two hits, Nick Johnson with two hits.   BJ Benz had four hits including one home run and two doubles and four rbi's.  Casey Johnson stepped up with three hits on the day.

Mudcats fall to Union Hill 11-4

The Mudcats fell to Union Hill on Friday night 11-4.  Union Hill scored one in the first and five in the second.  Trailing 6-0 after two innings, the 'Cats fought back to 6-4 going to the bottom of the sixth.  A two out Grand Slam by Tony Kubes sealed the victory for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the sixth.  Ben Schmidt had three hits on the night and Nick Johnson had his first hit in a Mudcat uniform.  It was a double to drive in a run.

Mudcats defeat New Market 4-3, complete sweep of weekend, 10-4 in League

The Mudcats completed an excellent weekend of baseball with a 4-3 victory over New Market.  Jake Schmidt pitched a complete game.  Prior Lake jumped out early with two in the first and two in the third.  New Market answered with one in the second, one in the third, and one in the eighth.  Each team had ten hits on the day.  Leading the Prior Lake attack was Greg Faue with three hits, Bret Mitchell,BJ Benz, and Andy Koehler each had two hits.  Justin Schliep knocked in a run in the first with a single.  Faue singled home single runs in the first and third and added a double in the eighth.  The 'Cats fouerth run scored with two out and a throwing error on a double steal allowing Ben Schmidt to come home.  Jake Schmidt retired 17 in a row until a two home run by Tom Chies in the eighth made it 4-3.  New Market had three straight hits with two outs after that, but Jake  worked out of the jam.

Mudcats defeat New Prague 7-0, Now 9-4 in League play

The Mudcats defeated the New Prague Orioles on Friday night by a score of 7-0.  Bret Mitchell went the distance with a two hit shutout.  Bret walked one and struck out nine in facing one batter over the minimum.  The 'Cats used a five run first to take the lead off starting pitcher Dan Meger.  Casey Johnson singled, Mark Hess reached on a throwing error.  With one out Ben Schmidt singled, loading the bases.  Justin Schliep delivered an rbi single.  Greg Faue followed with a two run single to make it 3-0.  Kyle Johnson and Andy Koehler single to make it 5-0.  The 'Cats added single runs in the 6th and 8th innings.  Ben Schmidt, Justin Schliep, and Kyle Johnson each had two hits, with Schliep slamming a double to lead the 12 hit attack for the Mudcats.

Jays Fly Through Western Roadtrip

The PL Jays recent losing steak came to a halt in recent River Valley League action in Fairfax & Arlington on Sunday 6/8.  Both opponents played good games and hung close until late Swarms gave the Jays the cushion needed to bag 2 big road wins.

In Game 1 at Fairfax pitcher Jesse Sheidecker faced 30 batters in 8 innings yielding 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3 enroute to bagging the win.  He also knocked in the first 2 Jays runs with Pete Hoffer & Travis Johnson on in the 5th in the Jays 6-0 Win.  Marshall Mullenbach threw the 9th inning, giving up no runs.

In Game 2 at Arlington Travis Johnson got the nod on the hill and struck out 6 in 6 innings work with the score 2-1 PL but got no decision as the A's tied the game at 2 in Rob Tschimperles 1st inning of relief.  The Jays scored 2 in the 6th after Arlington posted 1 in the 4th inning.  Tschimperle struck out 1 in 3 innings work and picked up the win.  Firstbaseman Scott Geisler was 2-5 at the plate scoring twice and knocking one in while Tim Garceau was 2-5 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI.

Mudcats beat St. Pat's 2-1, move to 7-3

The Prior Lake Mudcats defeated the St. Patrick Irish 2-1 at Bonin Field in St. Patrick.   The 'Cats scored two in the second on leadoff walks to Ben Schmidt and Greg Faue.  Ryan Defries sacrificed them to third and BJ Benz delivered a sacrifice fly to left scoring Schmidt.  Levi Schneider followed with a clutch two out single to score Faue.  The only Irish run scored on a wild throw trying to complete an inning ending double play in the seventh.   Bret Mitchell went seven innings, giving up 7 hits.  Mitchell had nine strikeouts in the game.  Justin Schliep pitched the final two innings for the save.  Ryan Johnson pitched into the ninth and took the loss for the Irish.   The Mudcats had seven hits and were led by BJ Benz with a single and a double and one rbi.  The Irish were led by Mike Goldsmith with three hits and two by Dom Deluca.
