By Joseph Chapman

The up & down season of 2017 PL Mudcats baseball continues as they rebound from Memorial Day loss at Veseli thumping the Webster Sox 13-0 on Wednsday June 7 in PL. The ‘Cats ripped 4 straight wins to start the season but have faltered of late including 2 big losses to New Prague 16-6 on 5/28 and 13-5 on 6/4.

Veteran hurler Jack Schmidt got the ball and kept the plucky Sox off the board in the 1st after yielding 2 hits and a walk but stranded the pads full. The ‘Cats started the scoring in the 2nd on a Levi Schneider rip and stolen base. Blade Schoenrock bunted Schneider to 3rd on sacrifice and leftfield Zach Lovera knocked him in for the score in the 2nd. For the day, Mudcats bottom 5 hitters: Schneider, Schoenrock, Lovera, Jerad Lehrer and Jack Schmidt combined for 10 hits and 12 of the Mudcats 13 runs along with 4 stolen bases. Lovera may go into Mudcat history getting drilled 3 times by Sox pitchers and Jack Scmidt helped his cause on the hill with a career best 4-4 with 3 RBI batting in the 9 slot. The 5 run 4th broke the game open for the Mudcats and Schmidt was in form striking out 6 walking 4 and allow 3 hits in 7 innings work of the 13-0 shutout win. Johnny Houston had a double, run scored and 2 RBI single in the 4th inning.

The 6-4 DRS Mudcats travel to Jordan Friday 6/9 for non league action and Sunday have a fishfight at New Market Hillside Park VS the Muskies who reside 1/2 game out of 1st place in the early DRS season at 7-1. The 7 inning exhibition versus the PL Jays 6/10 has been cancelled with a thin roster and extreme heat predicted.
