’14 LAKERS STILL FIGHTING TO FINISH UP TOP IN SSC
The PL Lakers were on cruise control in the South Suburban Conference winning 9 straight under 1st year skipper Nesbitt until stumbling getting blanked by Lakeville North 7-0 Friday May 9th. The loss was followed by an 8-1 drubbing by Eagan at the South Suburban Showcase May 10 before a 1-0 non league loss to Edina Tuesday 5/13 for 3 straight bouncing back with a 6-3 win at Eastview Tuesday 5/13. The Lakers travelled to Bloomington Kennedy 5/15 taking on the Eagles winning 7-1. Despite the recent slide the Lakers are still racing to the finish in the SSC in the final week of the season for the League title and top seeding/1st round bye in the upcoming MSHSL playoffs. The Lakers have 2 remaining games, a makeup at Burnsville 5/17 Noon at Alimagnet and wrap the home season Monday 5/19 in non league action hosting Osseo at 730PM.

MUDCATS 0-2 LAST WEEKEND, STILL BLANKED IN WIN COLUMN FOR ’14

The PL Mudcats travelled to Bonin Field Saturday 5/10 and spotted the host Irish 5 in the 1st 2 frames getting dropped 6-3 to St Patrick. Newcomer Justin Hackett was tagged with the loss. The ‘Cats came back Sunday hosting Elko in DRS action and hung tough early before relenting in a 12-4 loss at the Vet. The Mudcats take the Rice County tour travelling to Montgomery Memorial Park Saturday 5/17 730PM and Lonsdale Trenda Memorial Park for Sunday 5/18 DRS 1st pitch gametime hoping to get in the “W” column.

JAYS EVEN UP 2014 RECORD AT 1-1 AFTER COMEBACK BATTLE VS BP.
The PL Jays welcomed the MBA State Class C powerhouse Belle Plaine Tigers of the RVL and starter Nick Anderson spotted the Tigers a quick 3 in the 1st on an error in the field, 2 walks and hitting a batter before settling to blank the Tigers for 4 in a 5 inning stint. Rookie Zach Fraasch toed the rubber for 3 innings yielding 1 run on 2 hits before 2 scoreless bagging the win and Ryan Mestnik holding with a scoreless 9th frame. The Jays scoring was started in the 3rd when Jeff Butler was knocked in by Ryan Mestnik and Butler scored again in the 5th again plated by Mestnik on a deep shot to LF narrowing the score to 3-2 after 5. With a 4-2 score after the top of the 6th the Jays swarmed for 5 runs batting around int eh 6th inning and getting doubles by Fraasch, Corey Goodwin, Brandt Broderick and Tyler Buescher with singles but Butler and Scott Geisler and a Jim Schroeder sac fly. Buescher 2-4 2R 2RBI BB SB, Mestnik 2-3 2RBI, Goodwin 2-3 R RBI paced the Jays attack with 8 players bagging hits.

PL GRAD ALIVE IN YET ANOTHER PLAYOFF RUN WITH ‘KATO MAVS.
The Mankato State Mavericks were clipped in the League Tournament with PL native TJ Larson getting hung with the loss but are alive in NCAA D2 regional playoffs picking up a win in opening game action 5/15 with an 11-5 beatdown on Emporia State. The Mavs are seeking their 3rd consecutive Central Region crown with Larson pitching in the final game in their 3rd place 2012 and Runner Up finale in 2013 and in his final tour with the Maverick 9 following a standout effort for the PLHS Lakers.
