The PL Jays Golf Invitational made its move to Fall, taking place at Creeksbend Golf Course on Sunday October 11, 2020. Following a record turnout of 22 teams for the Spring 2020 event that also supported the PL Mudcats and PLABA, Fall also had a strong turnout with 14 squads battling to join previous Champs on the Hoppe Bats Trophy.
The Spring ’20 Champs were “scrambling on par 3’s” per Captain Mike Keating while most of Captain TJ Larsons squad was lying in wait and rolling in hot enroute to the Fall 2020 title. Larson was burning his cell as squads prepared, unaware that the 3 members of his reconfigured team THOUGHT the Fall classic was a noon start rather than the 11AM start time. The team of: Dan Schroeder, Josh Biezuns and Tor Anderson saddled up with TJ (who had started the round solo) to take the title by 1 stroke scoring -14/57 over the defending Spring 2020 Champs: Keating, Lindstrom, Loehr and Hanson who posted -13/58.

The Fall 2020 Champs names will be enshrined on the Hoppe Bats trophy along with the names of previous winners. The trophy will be undergoing an “expansion” to accept future winning teams as the original slots have filled in the 11 tournaments that have taken place since the return of the traditional social/fundraiser supporting local hardball and Veterans Field. 5 of the 14 teams included previous Champions as well as 10 Jays alumni and 7 active Jays players/staff and 4 NorthwestUmpires among the 57 player field.
