By Justin Braun

With Friday night’s win, and for the first time since 2009, the Jays will be back at the 2020 Class ‘B’ State Tournament taking place in Shakopee later this month.

Jays Jeff Butler lays down a sacrifice bunt in the third inning.

In a nail-biter, Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings before the Jays put things in motion in the third, tallying five runs off of hits from Jonah Hoeg, Mitchell Goodwin, Corey Goodwin, and Jett Heinen. A sacrifice fly from Tommy Keating and a sacrifice bunt from Jeff Butler also aided in the efforts.

Ben Eisenberg got the call for the Jays, pitching six and two-thirds innings, allowing only two runs on four hits and striking out six.

The Indians began their charge in the fourth inning scoring one, and again in the seventh inning plating another off of two defensive errors by the Jays.

Everyone was on the edge of their seats as the Indians made one last attempt to pull ahead in the eighth, scoring two more runs. Reliever Jake Larson ran into some problems, walking four batters, striking out one, and allowing two runs in two-thirds innings of work.

Brandt Broderick came out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Broderick recorded the last five outs to earn the save for the Jays. Eisenberg got the win.

In total, the Jays scattered 13 hits in the game. Corey Goodwin, Jonah Hoeg, Joe Loftus, Mitchell Goodwin, and Jett Heinen all had multiple hits for Prior Lake. C. Goodwin led Prior Lake Jays with three hits in five at-bats.
