Jays & Mudcats Bag Wins on 7/15, FAN APPRECIATION 08 NEXT!

By PLB Admin

The PL Mudcats posted a 13-11 DRS Win at the Vet in Prior Lake on 7/15 over the Shakopee Coyotes to extend their DRS Record to 15-5.  The 'Cats slim chance for their 1st ever DRS League title still hang in the balance and their 2 remaining games at Webster Saturday 7/19 200PM and hosting Elko Sunday 7/20 200PM.  The 'Cats could claim a share of the title by winning 2 but would need to post a big score to overcome run differntial from the earlier meeting between the Express and Mudcats.  The PL Jays travelled to Union Hill on 7/15 for non league exhibition action and were victorious 6-5 holding off a late Bulldog charge.  Tony Eicher started and tossed 7 complete, yielding no runs, scattering 6 hits and striking out 6 while allowing but one Bulldog to reach on balls.  Jesse Sheidecker and Travis Johnson relieved on the hill with Johnson posting the save allowing just 1 hit in 1 2/3 innings work.  Johnson & Sheidecker also homered in the game.  The Jays conclude their regular season on Thursday 7/17 hosting the Minneapolis Lakers at 730PM.

FAN APPRECIATION 2008 is on tap for the teams at their final HOME contests and will include prize drawings, concession specials and fun for Fans of all ages.  Special $1 adult admission for fans in team colors (MUDCATS-Red,White,Blue & JAYS-Red, Black)

PLAYOFFS…..PLAYOFFS. The PL Mudcats playoff picture will depend on concluding games in the DRS White with a deadlock at 15-5 between PL, St Patrick and Union Hill.  The format will be a best 2 of 3 games between 1 & 4 and 2 & 3 Divisional seeds with teams advancing with pitchers and catchers drafted (2) to Region Playoffs in Waterville with the 13/60 Divisional Champs.  The 2 teams that advance will have an additional draft pick of pitcher/catcher.  The PL Jays appear to be a virtual lock at 5th seed in Section 3B with the Victoria Vics in the 6 slot still able to climb with 2 remaining and needing wins vs. Chaska & Green Isle both to grab the 5 slot.  The Section 3B Pool Playoff starts 7/20.  The Jays cannot climb above the 5th slot and following remaining games in the Section will determine where they fit in the Pools of 1,4,6 and 2,3,5 in the Round robin format with 2 teams from each pool advancing to Final 4 action.  With the regular season and round robin combining the Jays, in theory, could pick up additional seeding for the Final 4 of Section 3B.  The 2 (of 6) teams that advance to the State Amatuer Tournament will draft up to 3 pitchers/catchers from losing teams.
