Jays Sign Two New Players

By PLB Admin

The Prior Lake Jays bolstered their depth yesterday by signing two Prior Lake Lakers for the upcoming summer.  Travis Johnson and Corey Goblirsch will be looked to provide depth in the infield, as well as on the mound.  Both are in the middle of the Lakers’ High School season, and are major factors in the team’s 8-3 start.

Goblirsch, a senior, has excelled as an infielder and has been the Lakers’ ace on the hill so far this year.  He has played both second and third base, and is leading the team with a .464 average.  On the hill, he has garnered a 4-1 record with a save, while posting a 2.25 with 17 Strikeouts in 28 innings of work.  Prior to signing his contract, Corey had just finished pitching a complete game victory against Farmington 3-1.  He scattered 6 hits and struck out 5 over the 7 innings.

Johnson, a sophomore who has been a Jays’ batboy for 5 years, is the starting shortstop for the Lakers.  He is hitting .392, while leading the team with 9 runs batted in.  He has also found his way to the mound for the Lakers, picking up a victory and striking out 6 in 7 innings of action.  Over the course of Travis’ last two games, he has hit at a .571 clip with 3 runs scored.

Goblirsch and Johnson will provide the Jays with two quality defensive players that can be plugged in at any infield position.  They will bring speed and hustle to the game, and will be looked at to contribute almost immediately.  The ability to pitch will also help provide depth to a rotation that has lost 5 pitchers from last season’s 26-9 team.  Many good things are expected from these young players over many years to come.

Welcome aboard Travis and Corey!
