Jays Swarm Chan, ‘Cats Clipped by Irish, PLABA Passes PLPD Check.


Jays Win Birdfight in RVL

The PL Jays move their record to 2-1 in the 2012 season with a 10-1 5 inning, rain shortened win over the Chanhassen Redbirds of the RVL 5/19. Pitcher Ryan Mestnik yielded 1 run and 1 walk while striking out 4 in his debut start since returning from his successful Freshman campaign for the Augsburg Auggies. LF Dusty Olynyk led the Jays with a 2-3 hitting performance scoring twice, bagging a RBI and knocking 2 doubles. Catcher Sam Hoppe picked up 2 RBI on his 1st homerun of 2012 in the Jays 4th in a 1-3 batting performance that included a sacrifice bunt. The Jays answered the Redbird 4th inning run to tie the score at one on Shortstop Kyle Zwebers groundout which scored RF Adam Cress who reached on balls to start the frame. The Jays then exploded for a 9 run 4th inning swarm off of Chanhassen starter Reid Teigland. The teams took the field for the top of the 6th before the skies opened up and the game was called. The Jays have outscored opponents 28-4 in their 3 games thus far and committed no errors in 17 innings of defense.

The Saints come marching to the Vet in PriorLakeas the Jays host the St Benedict Saints of the DRS in non league action Tuesday 5/22 then the St Peter Saints of the RVL roll in to PL Wed 5/23. The Jays will take Memorial Day weekend off before hosting St Louis Park Tuesday 5/29 in non league action with a 730PM 1st pitch. Their 1st section seeding game will take place at the Victoria Vics Friday June 1 at 730PM. Mudcats Clipped by Irish in DRS

The PL Mudcats, on the heals of a thrilling 11 inning 7-6 win over Montgomery last Thursday had the tables turned as DRS Division rival St Patrick Irish as Irish slugger Josh Simon belted a 2 run blast in the top of the 10th off off Mudcat releiver Sean Greywitt. Ben Morrison tossed 9 for the ‘Cats as starter on the hill. The tough luck ‘Cats were up 5-3 in the 9th but are plating runs of late and will try to bounce back on Thursday 5/24 when they host the Webster Soxes at the Vet for a 730PM 1st pitch.

PLABA Passes Compliance Check

The PLABA passed an alcohol compliance check at the 5/17 PL Mudcats game. The check of the PLABA concession by an undercover PLPD officer was successful in identifying the buyer as under 21 and staff congratulated for their diligence. The PLABAs “townteams” the Jays & Mudcats as well as the over 35 Mariners have sold beer at the concession since the Jays started in 1987.
