Jays Wind Down 2017 Preparing For Section Playoffs.

By Joseph Chapman

The Prior Lake Jays have competed well but integrating 11 newly signed players has taken time to find the right mix to close out wins. The Jays non league game Monday July 24 would welcome the Metro Knights of the MBA Class A League and former 2016 Jays Brian Sanchez and prevail with a 10-2 win surpassing the win total of the 2016 season. The Jays gave the ball to Brock Collins who pitched 3 innings yielding 2 runs. Ben Koopman got the win pitching a scoreless 4th and 5th frames yielding 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. The balance of the staff Pat Galvin (1IP), Brandt Broderick (1IP) and Matt Cady (2IP) kept the Knights off the board combining for 4 scoreless innings of relief. The Jays plated 2 in the 1st, 1 in the 3rd and exploded for a 6 run 4th to coast to the win. Outfielder Jonesy Buescher had a big day at the plate 2-3 scoring a run and knoclking 2 RBI. Catcher Tommy Keating, Shortstop Corey Goodwin and Rightfielder Adam Cress posted 2-4 days with Keating and Goodwin bagging RBIs while Cress also doubled and scored once in the 10-2 victory.

The Jays were dropped by Chanhassen to wrap up Section 3B seed games 6-0 Sunday 7/23 getting 1 hit by 2 St Cloud State pitchers brought in as part of Chanhassens “radius All Star” lineup (9 Chanhassen players on 25 man roster). Mike Edlefson took the loss for PL giving up 1 in 1st, 2 runs in 5th, 1 in 6th and 2 in 7th. Matt Cady tossed a scoreless 1-2-3 9th inning. Tyler Edwards picked up the Jays only hit in the 4th inning and the Jays stranded 8 baserunners. The Redbirds are cruising in Section 3B locking #1 seed for playoffs while the Jays (19 PL graduates on roster) are locked into a #7 seeding going 1-11 in the Section and getting a 1st round best of 3 VS #6 seed which appears to be Burnsville or the familiar Victoria Vics who defeated the Jays 2 games to 1 in their 2016 playoff matchup.

SCHEDULE CHANGES: Elko was not able to re-schedule the Jays Tuesday 8/1 game BUT the Jays picked up a Sunday playoff tuner vs Mpls Lyons Pub who got a bye from their regular season record.
