UPDATED: LakerLegion Gold Eliminated in Districts. ‘Cats Split in DRS Red Playoffs 1-1, Jays Split as Regular Season Winds Down.

The PL LakerLegion Gold was dropped 10-2 VS Eagan in American Legion District 3 16 Team double elimination Tournament losers bracket at Dundas. They went 1-2 in playoffs winning their play in game to advance to the bracket winning big 16-5 before advancing and losing to #3 seed Forest Lake in the Final 16 bracket 7-4. The PL Mudcats in Dakota Rice Scott LeagueRed Division playoff action were clipped 5-4 in Game 1 of their best of 3 VS St Patrick. The Irish scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the 8th inning on a bases loaded walk to pinch hitter Dom Deluca with two outs. It was the only walk issued by Mudcat starter Jake Schmidt who took the loss for the ‘Cats. The 8th started with hits by Matt Ambroz and Josh Simon. Both were bunted to third and second and Derek Hahn was hit by a pitch to load them up for Deluca who tallied the RBI on the game winning walk. Bill Dunker bagged the win tossing the last 3 in relief of Josh Simon.

The Mudcats will HOST the St Patrick Irish in Game 2 Friday 7/27 730PM at Veterans Field of Memorial Park in Prior Lake and with season pass holders eligible for concession specials at the Vet Cafe and in a return engagement Cals Cornfeast featuring Casey Acres sweetcorn freshly picked on game day! The DRS Red Division series will slot teams for Region 3C Tournament play which starts next week.

Mudcats WIN 7-1 Friday forcing deciding game Sunday 200PM at St Patrick Bonin Field. The will be slotted # 2 or #3 DRS Red based on outcome of this game and play Tuesday or Wednesday.

The PL Jays were defeated Tuesday 7/24 by the Minneapolis American Pie Patriots 10-7 in 10 innings. After posting 4 in the 1st the Jays bats fell silent until CF Tony Doherty deposited a solo blast off of the shed beyond RF of the Vet. 2B Dusty Olynyk reached on a 1 out single, advanced to 3rd on error and was plated on a Ryan Mestnik rip to 3B that was an error to make the score 6-5 after 5 for the Jays. After 2 runs were yielded in the top of the 9th Mestnik (who re-entered from pitching the 1st 5) laced a single and was bunted to 2nd by catcher Sam Hoppe then after a Reed Zweber walk scored on Tony Dohertys single. The Pie answered with 3 runs off of Jays pitcher Corey Goblirsch who took the loss giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk with 1 error in the field. The bottom was 3 up & 3 down for the Jays batters. Leaders for the Jays batters were: Doerhty 4-6 2 Runs 2RBI HR SB, Olynyk 3-3 2 runs RBI SB and Mestnik 2-4 2 Runs 2 RBI. Mestnik, D.Schroeder, Larson and Goblirsch(L 0-1) threw for the Jays. The Jays travelled to Elko 7/26 for their final non league exhibition of 2012 and broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 9th at Fredrickson Field posting 3 runs enroute to a 5-2 Win. Starting pitcher Kyle Zweber allowed 1 run in 5 innings work and reliever Pat Galvin allowed 1 run in 4 innings work bagging the win as the Jays rallied in the 9th for the victory. Galvin also converted the winning run in the 9th drawing a leadoff walk then advancing to 2B on a wild pitch and stealing 3rd on a ball the catcher did not handle cleanly and then getting a 2 out clutch knock by LF Reed Zweber. Doherty picked up his clutch RBIs hitting in Jake Pieper who’d walked and Zweber to complete the scoring for the 5-2 Win after a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th by the Express. The Jays batting leaders were: Doherty 2-4 2RBI, Reed Zweber 2-4 Run RBI 2B, Pieper 1-3 Run BB.

The PL Jays wrap up the regular season and RVL East Schedule Sunday 7/29 travelling to Joe Schleper Stadium at Tahpah Park against the Indians at 600PM who may still be battling for playoff seeding. The Jays are locked at #1 in Section 3B and will face the #4 seeded Chaska Cubs in Game 1 of their best of 5 Thursday 8/2 at Chaska Athletic Park at 730PM before returning to PL Sunday & Tuesday for games 2 & 3.
