As the 2021 Prior Lake Lakers turn for home on the regular season, they have continued the climb from early season losses posting another winning record in conference play for the week.
Following a disappointing conference loss Monday May 3rd at then winless Apple Valley by a score of 4-2, the Lakers bounced with home cooking in PL behind strong pitching and defense blanking 1st place Farmington 3-0 Wednesday May 5th and Shakopee 1-0 Thursday May 6. Connor Wietgrefe bagged the win over Farmington while Ryan Wattermann tossed a complete game 2 hitter for the 1-0 win over the Shakopee Sabers with fine pitching and thrilling plays by both teams in a follow up and answer to Shakopees 4-3 win April 16 at Tahpah/Joe Schleper Stadium.
The Lakers 2nd consecutive 2-1 weekly SSC record locks them at 6-6 in SSC action along with 4 other teams in the 4th slot tie behind Eagan (10-2), Farmington (9-3) and Rosemount (8-4) in an up & down return to the diamond for the league and MSHSL following no season in 2020. The Lakers jump back to the SSC next week taking on Rosemount, Eagan and Lakeville North.
The Lakers also posted a non conference 7-2 win over Coon Rapids on Saturday May 1 on Big Baller Saturday! and will conclude their non conference slate for ’21 hosting 3 levels in matchups Saturday May 8 versus the Belle Plaine Tigers. The Tigers, located in SW Scott County, are a long time power rolling up high run totals in the Minnesota River Conference of MSHSL Class AA and currently own a 9-1 record. The rare non league tilt hosting our Southern neighbor will also be 2021 STRIKE OUT CANCER DAY at Veterans Field with donations solicited from fans to support breast cancer research.
