The Prior Lake Lakers drop Apple Valley 6-4 in their final regular season game at Veterans Field of Memorial Park in PL. The Lakers drew a #5 Seed in Section 2AAA receiving a bye and travelling to #4 Buffalo (330PM Sat May 28) with the winner (PL WINS 7-1) advancing the the Section Final 4 next week hosted by the top seed (Eden Prairie #1, Minnetonka #2, Shakopee #3, Buffalo #4) from opening round action. A Laker victory and improbable losses by the 3 top seeds would bring the Final 4 to PL. The Lakers were eliminated in the Section Finals by Eden Prairie the past 2 seasons. The 2011 Lakers complete the regular season posting a 11-9 record going 8-9 in the South Suburban Conference which was 6th in the 10 team league. The PL Lakers also recognized and had a moment of silence prior to the start of their game against Apple Valley for Minnesota Twins Hall Of Fame player Harmon Killebrew, former Prior Lake resident and father of former Lakers Ken & Cam Killebrew and Grandfather to Casey that currently plays for the Apple Valley Eagles. The PLABA and its teams send condolences to the Killebrew family and thanks them for their contributions to the history of Prior Lake baseball.
The PL Mudcats like many teams around the state were washed out last Sunday 5/22 VS New Prague and play a rescheduled league game VS New Market Muskies Wed 5/25 730PM in Prior Lake. The Mudcats overall record stands at 4-1 with their lone loss a 4-0 defeat at St Patrick in DRS Divisional action.
The PL Jays remain at 1-1 after rescheduling last weeks rainouts and Belle Plaine cancelling for lack of men in from 5/1. The Jays next scheduled game opens section 4B Tuesday 5/31 host Rosemount to kick off the 3 game regular season meetings with the Rosemount, Savage and Inver Grove Heights which will determine seeding for the Section 4B Final 4 to be hosted in Prior Lake Sunday 7/31, 8/1-2 & 8/4-5 with 2 teams advancing to Class B Super Section Final 4. 2 teams will advance from Super Sections to the 8 team double elimination State Tournament hosted by Glencoe, Brownton & Hutchinson 8/19-21 & 8/26-28. The Jays get back to River Valley League play on Wednesday 6/1 travelling to LeSeuer for a 730PM 1st pitch in a makeup game from 5/22.
