The 2015 PL HS Lakers are battling in the challenging SSC with little to show as they turn down the stretch in the regular season posting a 3-6 record thus far. The Lakers have competed well but yielded games late with 3 1 run losses, 2 to State ranked power houses at Eden Prairie 4-5 loss 4/10 in the 7th frame and at SSC foe Burnsville 4-5 (9 innings) on 4/23. The South Suburban Conference, arguably one of the most competitive in the State, will be a dogfight down the stretch and the Lakers will host some “primetime” 7PM games at “The Vet” that should be entertaining for local baseball fans as they try to close out and post some W’s enroute to Region playoffs. The Lakers do not charge admission for regular season games.

JAYS LAY LOW, OPENER FRIDAY 5/15, GOLF Fundraiser 5/16

The MBA Class B Prior Lake Jays of the River Valley League open the 2015 season 5/15. In recent news, the Chanhassen Redbirds of the RVL recently added 6 former Victoria Vics as well Belle Plaine pitcher Ryan Diers, also of St Cloud State, and were re-classified to join Section 3B by the MBA at its recent board meeting. The move altered the Section adding them to the RVL East and creating a 6 team Section along with the Shakopee Indians, Chaska Cubs, Victoria Vics, Mankato Twins and PL Jays. The Jordan Brewers, slated to sign former Shakopee pitcher and KC Royals/St Paul Saints farmhand Chase Hentges, were allowed to remain MBA Class C if they do not sign Hentges based on their pledge 3 seasons ago to only sign local players when they petitioned to move from Class B to Class C. The Brewers finished 4th in Class C last season and have lost 1 RVL Class C game in their 3 seasons of C baseball. The Section 3B Playoff format will be the bottom 4 teams from the regular season playing a “best of 3” game series to face the top 2 regular season seeds in Round 2 with the top 2 advancing to the MBA Class B Championships in Cold Spring and Watkins.
