The PL Mudcats evened their record at 1-1 for the 2005 season and in the DRS on Sunday May 1 with a 9-3 loss to the Montgomery Mallards (1-1). The 'Cats who have played some competitive ball with the Mallards in recent years were locked in a classic battle early on amongst periodic flurries on a chilly Spring day down 3-2 through 6 innings when the Mallards capitalized on Mudcat mental & physical errors posting runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. 5 Mudcat errors, walks and timely hitting by the Mallards resulted in the 'Cats coming up on the short end for the day. Ben Schmidt batted 2-4 with 2 RBI & Casey Johnson batting 2-5 with 1 run scored and a double led the day for the Mudcat hitters.
The 'Cats will return to action with a non-league exhibition game vs. the Minneapolis Blue Sox on Thursday May 5 at 7:00PM. The Mudcats next Dakota, Rice, Scott League game will be on the road on Sunday May 8th for a 2:00PM Divisional showdown with the Veseli Warriors. The game will be carried live on KCHK 1350AM with pre-game at 1:45PM.
