The host PL Mudcats battled back from a 6-4 deficit after 5 1/2 innings to drop a 9 in the bottom of the 6th inning, dropping the Sox 16-6 in 8 innings on Thursday June 9. The Mudcats yielded 6 runs behind starting pitcher Ryan White who threw 5 innings before Ben Morrison came in the blanked the Sox in innings 5-8. White gave up 6 runs, 5 earned on 8 hits, 5 walks and 1 strikeout whole Morrison gave up zero runs on 1 hit, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts earning the win.
Morrison helped his cause at the plate batting batting 2-4, scoring 3 runs and knocking in 1 while shortstop Johnny Houston posted a 4-6 day at the plate, scoring twice with 4 RBI and 2 triples. Other multi-hit Mudcats were: Cole Bjorge 2-5 R 2RBI, Tony Loehr 2-4 R while DH Brad “The Blade” Schoenrock was 1-2 2R and reach on balls twice and ‘Cats rookie Nolan Rein went 1-2 RBI scoring thrice and drawing a walk to join the Mudcats 15 hit attack.
Brooks Prochaska 3-4 scoring a run and Brett Hoffman 2-3 run with 4 RBI had big days for the visiting Sox. Hoffman departing due to injury following a long run and dive on a shallow catch from centerfield.
The come from behind win locks the Mudcats into 3rd slot in the DRS League standings with a 8-4 record, 4-2 at the friendly confines of beautiful Veterans Field behind 10-0 New Market and 10-3 St Patrick. Top 4 positions at season end earn a bye into Regional Playoffs skipping the 1st round series to round out the Region field. Faribault currently sits in 4th at 5-3.
