Supporting our baseball family

We wanted to share that the last several weeks/months have been challenging for a few members of our extended baseball family, so keep them in your thoughts (and/or prayers) and send good vibes their way!

Karen Busselman, wife of Coach Darwin “Buff” Busselman and Mom to Jes, Paul, and Dave, and an avid supporter of Prior Lake Baseball was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a very aggressive form of brain cancer this past week. She’s about the sweetest lady you’ve ever met, and she’s got all of the love and support that she’ll need to fight this battle. She is one of PL’s original “Baseball Moms” supporting Coach Busselman‘s Hall of Fame career as Laker skipper, and a great friend to the players and families in his tenure. You can follow her CaringBridge page for updates on her progress here.

Aimee Swiatkiewicz, wife of Chris “Swany” Swiatkiewicz (Jays pitcher during the late 2000s) and Mom to Samantha, started her health battle in April. Aimee also golfs and once bagged a hole-in-one at Mississippi Dunes supporting the UMD Bulldog Baseball fundraiser several years ago. Through a number of doctor and ER visits, unfortunately she was diagnosed with a form of cancer in May. Aimee started chemo on May 29th with the hopes to reduce the size of the tumors in her lungs to get her off the ventilator. While she is stable, her improvement has been minimal and is now battling signet ring cell cancer. This cancer is also very aggressive and is often not responsive to chemo treatments. Cancer sucks. We’re pulling for you Aimee! You can follow Aimee’s journey on her CaringBridge page here.
