The 2017 MBA Class B & C Championships commence Friday August 18 at host sites: Hamburg, Green Isle and Norwood. There will be plenty of local representation from the area for local fans to get out and support MBA Townball. Traditionally, teams/communities “bid” many years in advance for the opportunity to host the Championships and host site communities ramp up to improve and provide a championship caliber experience for fans and players alike with facility & field improvements and expanded concession offerings rivaling the Minnesota State Fair.
The MBA Class C teams draft pitchers based on seed position from teams not advancing in playoffs. The PL Mudcats, eliminated by Veseli in the DRS Playoff round, will be represented by PL Mudcats pitcher Ben Morrison (#4 seed New Market Muskies) & Johnny Houston (#1 seed Union Hill Bulldogs) for the Tournament. In Class “C”, the #1 seeds received a bye until week 2 of Tournament play. Morrison posted a 3-3 record in 2017 pitching 47 innings striking out 37 and walking 14 with a 4.40 ERA while Houston posted a 2-1 record recording 1 save in 23 innings pitched striking out 29 and walking 7.

Random 2017 Tournament fun facts:
-6 Teams from Scott County will be participating in the the Tournaments, Union Hill, New Market, Elko, New Prague, Jordan and Shakopee Indians.
-Henderson breaks a participation drought dating to 1932.
-School District 112-Eastern Carver Schools features 3 participants based there: Carver, Chaska & Chanhassen.
-Green Isle, host city, was a short term member of Section 3B in the 2000’s before assignment to Class C.
-The Norwood Indians folded after receiving MBA hosting bid but as previous host as well the leadership team in place, MBA was comfortable allowing them to continue as host although they currently do not have a team in MBA townball.
-Hamburg (2007, 1998, 1988) & Norwood (2007) have previously hosted State Championships. Hamburg/Chaska with an attendance of 17,346 over the 3 weekend tournament in 1998 is a high water mark in recent tournament attendance history dating to 1960 Springfield who posted a 18,937 mark. The all time record attendance is from St Cloud in 1950 at 35,318.
-2018 will feature hosts New Prague, Shakopee and Jordan.

The MBA season is reaching conclusion with Class A crowning Champion Minnetonka Millers rallying from behind to defeat St Louis Park 11-9 at Bloomington Red Haddox August 22nd. It is Minnetonkas 3rd consecutive MBA Class “A” title. Rain last weekend slowed but did not knock the B & C Tournaments off schedule with the exception of B games that were suspended and went into Saturday 8/26.
In MBA Class “B” the field has narrowed heading to Championship Weekend with Class “B” down to the final 2 undefeated teams of the 8 remaining with Miesville & Chanhassen in the winners bracket final and top 3 guaranteed finish for the loser with the winner needing 2 wins for the title. Chanhassen beat Dundas 4-2 and Moorhead 9-5 in week 2 action after a 10-7 thriller in week 1 eliminating Sauk Rapids in a final at bat Grand Slam coming from behind to advance to the double elimination final 8. Chaska dropped a 7 combined error and rain delayed game to Northfield 6-2 in week/game 2 and now needs 4 wins to advance to the Championship and 6 to win it. The Eagan Bandits and Shakopee Indians of Section 3B were defeated in opening week single elimination portion of the 16 team tournament bracket.
In MBA Class C, New Market was clipped 5-3 in the single elimination “C” tourney in week 2 action but remaining local teams: Union Hill, New Prague, Faribault from the DRS and St Peter and Jordan were victors and advance to the final 16 and Championship weekend. Henderson ended its run in week 1 to Milroy 11-1. In the Class C field, 2016 Champion Raymond Rockets will square with Faribault while New Prague draws recent “C” powerhouse Sobieski and St Peter takes on long time “C” power and short time Section 3B team several years ago Green Isle. Carver of the CRVL also won in week 2 and will take on Union Hill. Seeds go out the window and the impact of draftee pitchers is likely to help dictate the Champion in a loaded field in a . The Prior Lake Mudcats are represented by Johnny Houston who was a draftee of the Union Hill Bulldogs. Ben Morrison of the Mudcats was a draftee of New Market.
The parks, Norwood, Hamburg & Green Isle have upgraded in anticipation of the MBA B & C Championships with expanded menus and top notch facilities for teams and fans and big crowds are expected as Champions are crowned on Labor Day.
