Jays win! Roll past Cubs in 12-1 clobbering

The Prior Lake Jays won big over the Chaska Cubs, 12-1, on Tuesday, and are finally back in the win column after several games.

The Jays got on the board in the top of the second inning after David Flasher homered to left field, and the Chaska Cubs committed an error, each scoring one run.  The Jays would score six runs on two hits in the top of the seventh inning. Beau Rabey drew a walk, scoring one run, Ross Hebel drew a walk, scoring one run, Dustan Green singled, scoring one run, Flasher grounded out, scoring one run, and Matthew Johnson doubled, scoring two runs.

Charles Running earned the win for Prior Lake. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and one run over six innings, striking out four and walking three. Nolan Kemp took the loss for the Chaska Cubs. The starting pitcher went three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out four and walking two. Joe Stelzig threw one inning of scoreless ball for the Jays in relief. The reliever surrendered two hits, striking out three and walking none.

The Prior Lake Jays collected 12 hits in the game. Flasher and Johnson were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for the Prior Lake Jays. Johnson led the Prior Lake Jays with three hits in five at-bats. Jeff Butler and Green each collected multiple hits for the local nine. Hebel led the team with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game.

JT Canakes led the Chaska Cubs with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Maddox Foss, Orlando Rios, Mason Windschitl, Canakes, Alex Twenge, Tyler Polster, and Nathan Rosenberg each collected one hit for the Chaska Cubs.

The Jays are back in action on Wednesday night (July 24) when they travel to Chanhassen’s Storm/Red Bird Stadium for more Section 3B action.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
