Playoffs: Mudcats Dominate Saints in 8-0 Victory

By Justin Braun

The Prior Lake Mudcats showcased a stellar performance against the St. Benedict Saints, decisively executing both defensively and offensively with precision, winning with an 8-0 shutout Tuesday evening at Veterans Field in Prior Lake. This Region 3C playoff game was an elimination game for both teams; the winner moving on to their next opponent in the playoffs, and the loser hanging up the spikes for the rest of 2024.

The Mudcats took an early lead in the third inning, putting up three runs when John Parker reached on a strikeout throwing error, Cole Clausen singled, and hits from Cole Bjorge and Alex Wattermann provided run support.  Bjorge went 4-for-5 on the night with three runs and three RBIs while nearly hitting for the cycle.  The ‘Cats would plate another run in the fifth and two more in the seventh and ninth innings, respectively.

On the defensive side, the Mudcats pitcher, Nick Allbee, delivered a flawless performance, holding the Saints scoreless. Allbee’s pitching was complemented by a robust defensive lineup, ensuring no runs were allowed. The Saints struggled to find their rhythm against Allbee’s pitches, resulting in nine strikeouts and allowing only a single walk.

The Mudcats continue their Region 3C playoff run when they take on the New Prague Orioles on Thursday, August 8th, at 7:30 PM in Prior Lake. Thursday’s game is an elimination matchup; the winner will play on Saturday for the #3 seed position from Region 3C for the State Tournament.
