With the Chanhassen Red Birds and Prior Lake Jays eliminated from Section 3B playoffs on Wednesday night, the pool has been reduced to six teams. Of those six teams, two teams have already punched their ticket, good for a trip to the 2023 Class ‘B’ State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
The Young America Cardinals bested the Eagan Bandits 9-5 in the opening round of playoffs and then beat the Burnsville Bobcats on Tuesday night in an 8-1 upset that launched the Bobcats into the loser’s bracket and will force them to claw their way back into the Top Four. The Chaska Cubs barely knocked off the Victoria Vics 2-1 in the opening round at Athletic Park, and in a come-from-behind victory, the Cubs beat the Shakopee Indians 9-7. Back-to-back wins for Young America and Chaska mean they are the first two teams to gain entry from Section 3B into the State Tournament.
The final two spots will be decided when the Section 3B playoffs continue on Friday, August 4th. The Eagan Bandits travel to Joe Schleper Stadium to take on the Shakopee Indians for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch. The Burnsville Bobcats will head west to Victoria to challenge the Vic’s at Poppitz Field. That tilt is also scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Once the final four are determined, additional games are played through the end of next week to determine the seeding of the final four Section 3B teams for the State Tournament.
