Prior Lake Post 447 American Legion baseball was resurrected following the demise of a Senior American Legion team representative for the 1st time in 70+ seasons in 2018 by the previous administration. The Coaching duo of Ben Kelsey and Taylor Smith (who also serves as General Manager) helped guide the team to a runner up finish in the Mankato Tournament and dropping a 5-4 decision to Alexandria in a quest to capture the Gopher Tournament site Champion in PL which would have advanced LakerLegion to Final 16 play in the USA’s largest American Legion Tourney with 96 teams competing.
LakerLegion rolls into the 2019 Playoffs with 2 late cancellations by Inver Grove Heights and Red Wing the final week of 2019 regular season as well a rainout in the home finale to Waconia July 20 but posting a solid 12-6 record and strong performances in Tournament play during 2019. The SubState 6 seeded the teams previous to announcing the brackets.
The 2019 Sub-State playoffs will be hosted by Hastings with LakerLegion facing Red Wing at 600PM at Hastings High School Wed July 24 in a double elimination 8 team format. Should PL 447 win, they will play Thursday 7/25 600PM VS Northfield/Lakeville South winner or 330PM also at Hasting HS vs the loser on 7/25. While Red Wing cancelled in the 2019 regular season and did not play Post 447, PL played both 2nd round opponents beating Northfield June 27 by the score of 5-1 and dropping a thriller to Lakeville South by a score of 4-3 on July 8.
