Jays outhit Vics but are downed 7-1

Prior Lake Jays fell 7-1 to Victoria Vics on Sunday despite out-hitting the Vics 12-9. Brady Baur led Prior Lake Jays with three hits.

The Vics got on the board in the top of the second inning after Griffin Streed singled, scoring one run, Joey Costello drew a walk, scoring one run, Carter Schmidt singled, scoring two runs, Matt Dolan singled, scoring one run, and Trey Cavello singled, scoring one run.

Jack Garrison earned the win for Victoria Vics. He allowed no runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out four with no walks.

Baur got the start for the Jays providing 1 2/3 innings of service allowing six runs on two hits, walking four and striking out two.  Jon Tolbert, Charles Running, Trevor Mong, and Sam Brower provided relief support.  Running, who provided three innings of relief, held the vics to two hits while striking out three.

The Jays tallied 12 hits in the game. Michael Gabbard went 2-for-3 at the plate as the number three hitter led the team with one run batted in. Dustan Green and Ross Hebel each collected multiple hits for Prior Lake.

The Vics accumulated nine hits in the game. Schmidt drove the middle of the lineup, leading Victoria with two runs batted in. The center fielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Streed, Schmidt, and Cavello each collected two hits. Victoria were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error, and turned five double plays in the game.

The Jays are back in action on Thursday, June 27 when they travel to St. Peter to take on the Saints in non-league action.
