Mudcats Hooked By Coyotes in Playoffs.

MudcatsFlagCropped The Prior Lake Mudcats went into the Region 3C playoffs with a 2-5 finish in July and found themselves in the “play in round” single elimination tournament with the other 4 lowest seeded teams from the DRS League regular season hoping to advance to the Region 3C double elimination tournament finals. In the 1st round, the Mudcats drew the Shakopee Coyotes whom they defeated 11-4 on May 10 and 4-3 on May 25 in early season action.

The Coyotes were up 2-0 in the 4th inning when the Mudcats answered and evened the score plating 2. The Coyotes took the lead scoring single runs in the 6th and 7th innings making the score 4-2 behind starter Alex Johnson who went the distance in the win for Shakopee. Jake Schmidt pitched 7 for the ‘Cats and took the loss yielding 4 runs, 3 earned, in 7 innings with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk on 8 hits. Justin Hackett tossed 2 in a no hit shutout stint with 3K and 1 walk.

The Mudcats plated 1 in the 9th on Greg Faues 1 out single which was followed by a single by Kyle Schmidt. Casey Johnson brought the Mudcats within 1 run hitting the ball to 2nd. An error plated Issac Saad, running for Faue, to make the score 4-3 with 2 on base and 1 out waking the home crowd. Austin Schultz, pinch hitting for Zach Lovera struck out swinging as did Jonny Houston stranding 2 while ending the game and PL Mudcats season. The Mudcats finished 12-11 in the DRS Consolation Runner Up (2-2) at the Highway 55 Tournament losing to Raymond, 0-1 in playoffs and 3-5 in non league, exhibition games.

The Coyotes would advance through Region 3C as #2 seed to the MBA Class C State Tournament along with Faribault, New Market, St Patrick (#1, #2, #4 seed respectively)

Following Region 3C Play the following Mudcats pitchers were drafted to represent PL & Region 3C at the MBA Class C State Championship Tournament: NEW MARKET MUSKIES Ben Morrison and Justin Hackett, ST PATRICK IRISH Jonny Houston.

Prior Lake LakerLegion Wizards Post 447 Recognized for Historic Season

The Prior Lake Jays welcomed the Prior Lake LakerLegion Post 447 Wizards to the Vet at their game versus Shakopee Indians on Friday August 7th which was also 2015 PL Jays Fan Appreciation and Alumni Day with a donation from game proceeds to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Minnesota. The Wizards able to attend were recognized along with Coaches Nagel & Smith for the teams 2015 21-16 overall record as well the Sub State 6/District 3 Championship, 2-2 State Tournament record and final 10 State Tournament finish. The State Tournament appearance was the 1st in the programs long local history. The team was presented with a team photo from the District Championship that also documented the entire magical season of Wizards baseball with congratulations from PLABA, PL Jays & PL Mudcats baseball teams.

Jays Downed in Section 3B Playoffs In 2 Straight To End 2015.

The PL Jays 2015 season came to a close in the 2015 Section 3B playoffs at the hands of the Chaska Cubs in their best of 3 opening round series. The Regular season #3 Cubs defeated the Jays in season 15-3 (7 innings) on 7/24 at Chaska and 9-1 8/9 while the Jays were victorious on their home date in the regular season 11-3 on 8/2.

In Game 1 at Chaska Athletic Park 8/11, the host Cubs rolled on the power of an 8 run 2nd inning and as had been the case in many Jays regular season losses, 3 errors in the field behind starter Austin Truso (2IP). Chris Kelly (2IP), Zach Fraasch and Brandt Broderick allowed 6 additional runs. Jim Schroeder tallied a 1 out double to right center in the Jays 1st but was stranded. He was 2-3 on the day to lead the Jays attack. DanSchroeder was 1-2 leading off the 2nd with a single to left field but was also stranded by Cubs ace Austin Lubinsky. Jeff Butler drove a 1 out single to leftfield in the 3rd on a 1-3 effort and Adam Cress tallied the other Jays hit on the day with a 1 out single past short. The Jays offense stranded 6 runners on base.

In Game 2 at Veterans Field in PL 8/13 the host Jays grabbed a 1-0 lead after the 1st on a leadoff double by Jeff Butler that was followed by a single to short center by Jim Schroeder before a 1 out single to left by Tyler Edwards plated Butler. The Cubs answered on Jays starter TJ Larson who walked a Cub with 1 out, then a Jays error allowed the top of the order up and Tony Lane knocked in Cory Poppitz to knot the game at 1. The Jays bats fell silent to Cubs pitcher Pete Ohnsorg who pitched 1-2-3 innings through the 5th inning while the Cubs chased Larson plating 8 runs on 2 walks, 5 hits and a hit batter. Chris Kelly recorded an out on a relay to home then 2nd while allowing a run then a double by Kyle Geason and RBI single by Chase Hentges completed the scoring. Kelly settled allowing runs in the 4th (FC G.Lane, SB, RBI single T.Lane) and 5th innings (HR-Johnson) before scoreless Cubs frames in the 6th and 7th. The Jays stranded 2 in the 6th. Jim Schroeder was 2-3 with a double on the day, Jeff Butler 1-2 with a double and run scored and Tyler Edwards 1-3 with the Jays only RBI.

Chaska went on to defeat the #2 seeded Mankato Twins 2-0 in the Championship Series round then toppling regular season #1 seed Shakopee 4-3 to capture the #1 seed representing Section 3B while Shakopee travels to Cold Spring & Watkins as #2 seed representing Section 3B. The Shakopee Indians took down the Victoria Vics in 2 games with identical 6-5 scores. Victoria upset #4 seed Chanhassen in 2 games in their 1st round matchup before falling to Shakopee.

The Jays finished 2015 with a 12-19 overall record capturing the Bud Bonus Trophy at the Elko New Market Invitational Tournament and 0-2 playoff record.

35ers Try To Repeat 2014 at MSM State Tournament

35er 2014 champsPacers14StateThe Prior Lake Mariners and Prior Lake Pacers of the 35 & over Minnesota Senior Mens Amateur Baseball Association commenced the annual multi-site 2015 State Tournament 8/22 attempting to repeat their historic finishes of 2014. The Pacers were MSM Class B Runners Up while the Mariners were Class AA Champions. In 2015 the Pacers compiled a 7-8 regular season record while the Mariners finished the regular season in 2015 at 11-4.

The Mariners defeated Carlos 10-3 in game 1 8/22 and lost to Shakopee 6-2 in game 2 8/23 and will face Searles 8/29 230PM in Jordan playing to advance to the Class AA Consolation (8/30 130PM St Peter) or 7th Place (8/30 11AM) games in St Peter versus Waconia or Fort Ripley. The Pacers clipped St Peter 6-5 in game 1 8/22 and pounded Alexandria 10-0 in game 2 8/23 and will face the Southwest Outlaws 8/29 at 730PM in St Peter to advance to the Class B Championship 8/30 630PM in Belle Plaine with a win or Class B 3rd place game 8/30 400PM, also in Belle Plaine.

The Tournament in 2015 is hosted by: Jordan, Belle Plaine, St Peter, Waconia and Cologne.

2015 MBA State Tournament Championships Underway

The MBA “Townball” Class A Championship Tournament concluded with the Minnetonka Millers defeating the 2014 Champion St Paul Capitals 5-2 on 8/16 at Bloomington Red Haddox Field.

The MBA Class B & C State Tournaments at Cold Spring/Watkins and St Cloud Putz commenced last weekend with Class C action. Local teams Class B representatives featured in the Tournament: Chaska Cubs (#1 seed overall, Section 3B Playoff Champions VS Isanti Fri 8/28 5PM at Watkins) & Shakopee Indians (Section 3B regular season #1 VS Eagan Fri 8/28 5PM at Cold Spring) will represent in Class B starting Thursday 8/27. Class B bracket is single elimination 16 team field with game 2 for winners Sat 8/29 in the double elimination Final 8. Elko & Savage lost in Class B Section Finals and were eliminated.

MBA Class C “local” reps: Shakopee Coyotes (Region 3C #3 seed, defeated 2-1 by Lamberton 8/22), St Peter Saints (Region 6C #3 Seed, defeated 13-3 (7 innings) by Waconia 8/23) were eliminated while New Market Muskies (Region 3C #2 seed, win 10-0 Hinckley 8/23), St Patrick Irish (Region 3C #4 seed, win 6-0 New Munich 8/22), Belle Plaine Tigers (Region 6C #2 seed, win 3-2 Hadley) advanced in the 48 team Class C bracket. The Faribault Lakers (#1 seed Region 3C, VS Green Isle at Cold Spring Sat 8/29 5PM) and Jordan Brewers (#1 seed Region 6C VS Chokio at Cold Spring Sunday 8/30 130PM) received byes into the round of 32. KCHK 95.5 will be covering many local Class C games and brackets updated by MBA. The Prior Lake Mudcats will be represented by pitchers Ben Morrison and Justin Hackett (NEW MARKET MUSKIES) and Johnny Houston (ST PATRICK IRISH) who were drafted by advancing teams and eligible to pitch in the tournament. Class B & C Tournaments conclude on Labor Day with Champions crowned.
