The Prior Lake Jays got out to a five-run lead in the fifth inning and held on for a 5-3 victory over the Highland Park Beavers Sunday night. Highland Park scored two runs on a home run in the seventh inning.
In the first inning, The Jays got their offense started. Tommy Keating singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
Prior Lake Jays tallied four runs in the fifth inning. Jays bats in the inning were led by Keating and Mitchell Goodwin, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Bret Mitchell was the winning pitcher for the Jays not allowing any hits or runs over three innings, striking out six and walking one Beaver. Sam Schlachter and Lawson Zenner entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Zenner recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for the good guys.
Keating went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead Prior Lake Jays in hits, and Prior Lake’s Mitchell Goodwin receives the “Good Wood” award for his long ball in the fifth inning; his second home run in three games.
Tonight’s win brings the Jays to 3-0 on the season. They’ll be back in action at home this Friday, June 7th with a 7:30 pm first pitch.
