The Jays handily broke a three-game losing streak going on the offensive Sunday night in a big 12-2 win over the Highland Park Beavers.
Striking quickly in the first inning when, Jonah Hoeg homered on the first pitch of his at-bat, scoring two runs.
At the top of the third inning, The Beavers knawed back and tied things up at two. An error scored one run for Highland Park.
During the fourth inning, the Jays pulled away for good with four runs including a Cooper Smith triple, scoring one run, Mitchell Goodwin then singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Jonesy Buescher doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.
Cooper Smith earned the victory on the mound for the Jays. He went five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four without any walks committed. Jake Larson threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen and struck out three.
The Jays smacked two home runs on the day. Goodwin had a homer in the sixth inning. Hoeg went deep in the first inning.
The hit parade was in full force with 15 hits in the game for the hometown Jays. Rob Frederick, Smith, Hoeg, Buescher, and Goodwin all managed multiple hits. Hoeg, Smith, and Frederick each collected three hits to lead the team.
The Jays return to the diamond on Tuesday when the Chanhassen Red Birds come to town. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Veterans Field in Prior Lake.
