Lakers hosting 3 straight as SSC slowly slides into 2022 season

The PL Lakers of ISD719 have fallen victim to rescheduling due to weather related postponements early in the 2022 MSHSL season.  The games stack up with a home stand to wrap the week with the Lakers hosting the Farmington Tigers Wednesday April 27 for a 700PM South Suburban Conference game. Parking will be at a premium, arrive early and hungry as the VetCafe returns to form in 2022 serving up all the ballpark favorites, fresh hot coffee & cocoa on a chilly night as well the tastiest wiener in Scott County (TM).  The Tigers are a favorite in the 2022 SSC with a capable lineup returning from their 2021 State Tournament run.  The 1-1 Lakers continue the home stand hoping to even up the season with the Lakeville South Cougars Thursday April 28, at 700PM. also with a night under the lights at Veterans Field.  The Cougars dropped PL 3-2 for their lone loss of 2022.  It is the Lakers annual P.L.A.Y. Night where locals from the youth leagues are invited to  come to the friendly confines and support Laker baseball.  2022 is a special season for PLAY Sports which started with baseball as one of its charter sports in 1972 as the community grew and has taken a lead role as it celebrates its 50th year continuing to enhance sports opportunities for area youth.    The PLHS 9 wrap the week in a makeup game Friday April 29 with 430PM 1st pitch scheduled for the Shakopee Sabres.  Select 2022 games will be streamed by PL Lakers Live (CLICK to Link to Facebook Page).

THANKS Hardball Hotstove Blast 2022!

The Jays, PL Mudcats townteams and Over 50 Bald Eagles welcome fans and friend back with the Hardball Hotstove Beerblast hosting hundreds in the return to the annual fundraiser which was a victim of the global pandemic in 2020 & ’21.  Special thanks to Pointe Bar & Grill for hosting the day as well to several area businesses that supporting the fabulous prize table that saw an estimated 80 drawings as well congrats and thanks to our silent auction winners and cash prize winners of $100, $50 & $75 that have been contacted.  6 kegs was a fitting welcome to 2022 but down from previous seasons with a record 15 in 2018.

Mudcats Thumped in Opener, Return to Vet May Day 2022

The PL Mudcats hit the road to open 2022 at Elko and were pasted 17-0 by the Express in 7 innings.  Ben Morrison yielded 4 runs, 3 earned in the start and loss striking out 3 and walking 1 scattering 4 hits.  Outfielder Cole Bjorge and Josh Dvorak tallied the lone Mudcats hits on the day.  They rusty ‘ 22 Mudcats also welcomed Bear Blaney, Josh Dvorak, John Parker and Scott McCaustin to the squad and all saw action.   The New Prague Orioles of the DRS come into Veterans Field Sunday May 1 for 200PM Class “C” action with the home 9.  The VetCafe award winning concession will be open with all your ballpark favorites including cold brew and season passes (VETPass22) available for $15 that also provide admission to  PL Jays home regular season and 3 complimentary items from the VetCafe*.  The ‘Cats under skipper Greg “Fud” Faue hope to extend the season in 2022 having lost in Region playoffs last season to return to the MBA Class C State Tournament in 2021 following a deep run to the Final 16 in 2020 at Milroy and Springfield.  This seasons MBA Townball Class “B” and “C” State Tournaments will be hosted by Faribault, Dundas and Miesville.

Area ballers face off in college ranks

College teams are heading down the homestretch of their 2022 seasons.  Recently UM Crookston travelled to Duluth and Mitch Goodwin had a day for the Golden Eagles with a home run in each game of their doubleheader wins vs. UM Duluth Bulldogs.  Wattermann led the “LakerDogs” bagging 3 hits.
