The Prior Lake Jays lost to Young America Cardinals 8-4 on Sunday. The Jays were scoreless through seven innings before a late-game charge that put up four runs in the eighth.
A single by Isaac Hormann put Young America Cardinals on the board in the bottom of the first. YA added one run in the third after Alex Logelin hit a sacrifice fly and then scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a home run by Brayden Kohls.
Prior Lake made the score 8-4 in the top of the eighth inning when Troy Lynch launched a three-run homer to deep center, and Takuma Padilla hit into a double play, scoring a run as a result.
Brice Panning earned the win for the Young America Cardinals. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one. Henry Brandt took the loss for Prior Lake Jays. They went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking five.
Jonah Hoeg went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Jays in hits. Lynch provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led PL with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-3 on the day.
YA collected ten hits in the game. Kohls and Panning were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for the Cardinals while hitting back-to-back. Kohls went 3-for-4 at the plate as the center fielder led the team with three runs batted in. Hormann led the team with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing ten walks for the game.
The Jays are back in action on Tuesday night when they visit the Chanhassen Red Birds at Storm/Red Bird Stadium for a 7:30 pm tilt.
