The PL Jays squared with the 2008 MBA Class C Runner Up Sauk Rapids Cyclones and rallied for a hard fought 3-2 victory. Kyle Zweber got the nod for the start throwing 5 and yielding runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings facing 20 with 5K, 2BB and 4 hits with puma like reflexes on the defense. Tony Eicher threw a scoreless 6th yielding a hit but allowing no walks or runs and recording the first out on a “superman” dive forward on a short bunt in front the the hill. Draftee Scott Hollingsworth of the Jordan Brewers got his first stint with the swarm facing the minimum in the 7th and 8th yielding 1 hit, 1 walk and striking out 1 and Draftee Mac Zachow of the Green Isle Irish made the most of his return to Walsh Field bagging the save throwing a scoreless 9th inning yielding 1 hit. The Jays offense answered lone Cyclone runs in the 2nd and 3rd with the Jays down when Tony Doherty laced a 2 out 2-2 count over the infield plating Adam Cress who was aboard on a fielders choice in the 3rd inning to close the game to 2-1. In the 4th inning the Jays had leadoff singles by Dusty Olynyk & Him Garceau that advanced to 2nd and 3rd on Scott Geislers sac bunt and both plated on Sam Hoppes broken bat 2RBI single up the middle of Sauk Rapids big righty Jeff Hille who went the distance in the loss.
The win propels the swarm for another showdown with the Shakopee Indians, also of Section 3 for an all Scott County Winners bracket Final Sat Sept 5 600PM at Gaylords Walsh Field. The Jays were dropped by the natives 7-2 June 2 in RVL game and swept Section 3B/RVL games June 14 8-5 and June 19 7-4 but were dropped 4-2 in their last meeting at PL in Section Seeding game 8/16. The winner of PL VS Shakopee advances to the State Class B Championship Game while the loser awaits the survivor of the losers bracket games with one advancing from Cold Spring V Sauk Rapids (1PM 9/5) and Savage V Hastings (330PM 9/5) The winners face off at 1PM Sunday 9/6 in Gaylord with the Winner facing the Shakopee/PL Jays Loser at 330PM on Sunday 9/6 with 1 team coming back needing 2 wins Monday vs the Saturday Winner for the 2009 MBA Class B Championship.
